7th Grade Curriculum
Welcome to 7th grade Science! This year we will be completing several OpenSciEd curriculum units. These units DO NOT use a textbook. Instead we have a science notebook to track our learning which is kept in the classroom. If students wish to bring their notebooks out of the classroom for some reason, they are expected to bring it back with them to use each day in science class.
Our units are phenomenon based and include a combination of lab activities, questioning and investigations, research, and discussions. This year's science units are:
1. Metabolic Reactions (aka, the M'Kenna Unit!) - this unit should last until around Thanksgiving.
2. Matter Cycling & Photosynthesis - this unit will start in December/January and will last until Early Spring.
3. Ecosystem Dynamics - this unit will last until May.
4. Sexual Health - May - June. This is NOT an OpenSciEd unit. The curriculum for this unit was developed by the district and covers a range of topics related to the subject of human body and sexual health. This curriculum aligns with the National Sexual Health Education standards. If you have any questions about this unit or would like to take a look at the curriculum, please contact Mrs. Dangerfield.
Our Team Spelman daily Agenda/Homework chart can be found on our Team Spelman website linked on my homepage. The majority of our science work will be completed in class. If students do not finish an assignment within the allotted class time, they may have to finish something at home. I push out some of my assignments to students through Google Classroom. Each student has received an invitation to that during class and should have already joined for their individual science class.
